Closing the Funding Gap - A Practical Guide to Invest in More Women Founders

Updated: Apr 26

In an effort to deepen our understanding and commitment to fostering inclusivity within the Venture Capital (VC) landscape in Canada, Cap Inclusive embarked on a comprehensive journey, engaging with over 75 women professionals in the field. This initiative was not just a quest for insights but a mission to amplify the voices of women in venture capital–a sector where their representation and impact have historically been marginalized.

Our Closing the Gender Gap series is a testament to our dedication to this cause, offering a platform for these women to share their stories and experiences. Their contributions have brought to light clear trends and paved the way for actionable, industry-driven solutions aimed at dismantling the barriers that hinder gender inclusivity.

Through discussions, research, and analysis, we identified key areas where the industry can evolve to become more equitable. Recognizing the unique journey of each woman founder, our reports strive to provide guidance that can inspire funds looking to tailor their practices to the diverse realities of women entrepreneurs.

The first report in our series delves into the realm of investment practices, spotlighting the systemic barriers and biases that disproportionately affect women founders during fundraising efforts. By highlighting best practices and advocating for a more inclusive investment approach, we aim to bridge the gap and foster an environment where women’s ventures are evaluated on their merit, potential, and impact.

Our engagement with these remarkable women has been a source of inspiration and motivation. It emphasizes the urgent need for change and the potential for transformation when we listen, learn, and act on the wisdom of those who navigate these challenges daily.

As we continue to explore and document the multifaceted aspects of closing the gender gap in venture capital, we remain committed to creating a more inclusive, equitable and vibrant ecosystem. Through shared stories, research, and collaborative efforts, we believe that we can inspire a wave of change that will not only benefit women founders but also enrich the entire venture capital industry with diverse perspectives and innovative solutions.

We invite our readers, stakeholders, and the wider community to join us in this endeavor. Together, we can redefine industry norms and create a more inclusive and equitable future for all entrepreneurs, regardless of gender.
